Lasting Memories Challenge: Show Us Your Vacation Photos

It's the end of Summer Vacation and we want to see your Vacation Photos this week at Lasting Memories.
My vacation photos are actually 22 years old. There are from when Scott was a year old.  Deer Acres was located in Pinconning, Michigan. I loved going there as a kid. My mother's side of the family would gather there once a summer, There were Mother Goose exhibits and a petting zoo. We always had a picnic lunch which consisted of KFC Chickens, my Aunt Barb's Tuna and Macaroni Salad and my Mother's Texas Sheet Cake. And we got to drink Coke out of a bottle. (Those were the days of the green Coke bottles, nothing was disposable.)

Taking Scott with my family was a highlight of our Michigan vacation to see my family. Scott loved it there and would have ridden the Merry Go Round nonstop if it had been allowed. He was furious with me though because I wouldn't fix the cracks in Humpty Dumpty. I was Super Mom and I could fix anything in his eyes.To bad that Super Mom didn't exist through his teen years.....sigh

Lasting Memories Challenge-Sketch

Hello paper crafting friends! It's a new week at Lasting Memories. I so enjoyed seeing all of your banners last week! This week we have a sketch by Stacey Lokovic at Inspired to Scrap.

Stacey has an online scrapping group called Weekend Warriors that meets online every 2 months. The sketches are awesome and allow you to get a ton of pictures into her sketches.  This month Stacey has graciously donated a spot in the next Weekend Warrior Class.  So be sure to get entered by completing at least one of the challenges this month. Remember you have the entire month to get the challenges done!

When Scott was young we often traveled out of state for his gymnastics competitions. One of his favorite competitions was the Cereal City Classic in Battle Creek, Michigan. (He scored a perfect 10 on the vault one time, so I am sure that was part of the reason.)

Kellogg's has a factory there that allows visitors. So these pictures are from there.

Toddler at the Park Layout

Ok, so the photos are 20 years old. And the paper is probably 10, can we just say ABOUT TIME! LOL

Scott is 14 months in these pictures and in real life he is 23! LOL Better Late than never?
All of the papers and embellishments are retired, so I am not listing supplies since they don't exist. But I had fun doing the layout. What I wouldn't give for one for the adorable toddler hugs and kisses.  Now I am lucky if I get an occasional, "I Love You."

Journal: At 14 months you were adorable. You loved being in charge & would rather push the stroller than ride in it. You also loved the park & would slide  & swing for hours!

Challenges

Creative Knockout  Make it Masculine
Child's Play Challenge: Peter Pan I was inspired by the fact that Peter Pan never wanted to grow up and just wanted to play. Where better to play but at the park!
Hobbybook Designer Challenge: Summer Challenge

Hope you have time to spend in the park this weekend:)

Guest Designer At Use It Tuesday Tuesday: Birthday Theme

Today is a special day! I am the Guest Designer at Use it Tuesday:)  This challenge is so needed by me. As a hoarder I need all the encouragement I can get to USE MY STASH!

This week the challenge is Birthday. I went a step further and challenged my self to not only use the Birthday Theme but to use my paper scraps instead of using Birthday Themed paper.

Tip: I have a screw and nails organizer that I keep left over stickers in. When a set of alphabet stickers/ number stickers are to the point that it is difficult to use the sheet any more, I cut them apart and put them in the organizer. (They are organized alphabetically an there are drawers for punctuation and another  for numbers. Then when I need a mixture of sizes or designs I pull from the organizer. This prevents waste:)

Supplies:

Cardstock and Paper: All from my paper scraps. My paper scraps are organized by color in Cropper Hopper's 12x12 envelopes. The envelopes are stored in a crate.

Numbers: American Crafts Thickers

Title Sticker:  Pebbles Inc. Birthday Boy I think this is about 5 years old.

Twine:  Doodlebug

Make a Wish Sign: I think this is from when I first started scrapping back in 2002.  The only thing older than this onthe layout is the photos which are from 1995! LOL

Ribbon: Target and I think it's about 5 years old!

Circle Punch: EK Success Paper Shapers 2.75" Circle

So how did I do? Do you think I put my hoarded stash to good use?

Challenges:
Use it Tuesday:  Birthday

Thanks to the Use It Tuesday Team for giving me the chance to share this week as a Guest Designer. I had a blast!

Lasting Memories-Tell Me a Story

When I saw Lasting Memories Challenge "Tell Me a Story" I thought this is a perfect time to scrap a newspaper article and at the same time  to immortalize one of Jame's comments when he was 4. James was always coming up with "priceless commentary" on the world around him. (He still has a lot to say about world events...LOL)

When James was 4 we put him into a tumbling class to keep him occupied while his older brother Scott was training for his gymnastics team. Before long the coach was begging us to let James compete on the tumbling team. Now please understand James was of football player build. We really weren't expecting much, we just thought the opportunity to do something constructive while we were in the gym waiting on Scott was enough reason to let him do it.

Well, James surprised all of us. He won most of the competitions and then he won STATE!!!!! He had a room full of trophies and ribbons. We asked him if he would like to join his brother's team the following year. His response? "No Mommy. I'm done with gymnastics. I reached the top. Time to tackle a new sport!" He was JUST 4!!!!! LOL

Photo doesn't show the title well but it is an embossed sticker from my stash (over 8 years old..ugh)"Savor the Journey"

Tip 1: Newspaper is VERY ACIDIC. This article was already disintegrating. I copied it onto glossy acid free paper. I documented on the bottom of the page the date and newspaper.

Tip 2:  The two printed papers are very busy. At first I did not care for them together. But by using one as the border around the paper and using a solid black in between the busy papers it works.

Tip 3: The plain wood arrow was too stark against the photo. So I used Studio Calico Silver Mist to help it blend with the layout.

Tip 4: While I love the look of black and silver with the newsprint there was really a second reason I choose the color combo. The stripes on their uniforms is silver glitter and the uniforms are black. I wanted to carry out the team colors, since this was an article about the State Championship.

Supplies: Cardstock, Bazzill Black Orange Peel, Studio Calico Front Row Scrapbook Kit, Stash
Embellishments: Studio Calico Wood Arrows, Lawn Fawn twine
Markers; Signio Silver
Sticker: Stash (and we won't talk about how old that one is...LOL) If you can't see it, it says "Savor the Journey"

The sketch for this layout was from last week's Inspired to Scrap Weekend Warrior Class. It happens once a month and I HIGHLY recommend checking them out. I have found the sketches to be more challenging than the typical ones you see on the internet. Lots of photos are used. And the cost is cheap, only $5. I learn a ton and I get a lot done! To me they are the best value on the internet. The Gals are awesome. They also have a forum, which I intend to get more involved with this coming month.

Challenges
City Crafters Challenge All About Him
Crafty Sentiments Card project for a Male
Papertake Weekly  Hello Boys
Through the Craftroom Door  Anything Goes
Tip Top Tuesday Masculine
Try it on Tuesday One for Men
Use it Tuesdays Masculine The "Savor the Journey" Sticker is over 8 years old and the newspaper article is from 1999!

Have a wonderful week and I can't wait to hear your stories!

Lasting Memories-Inspired by a TV Show

This week at Lasting Memories we are looking for layouts inspired by a TV Show.  Scott as a toddler loved preschool and loved to watch Mickey Mouse cartoons. Supplies:
Alphabet: American Craft Thickers Boardwalk (used to make the boarder around the page)
Disney Stickers: EK Success and Sandylion
Cardstock and Paper: VERY OLD Paper-like over a decade (as I roll my eyes over my hoarding tendencies)

Lasting Memories Challenge-Twos Company, Three's a Crowd

Welcome to another fun week at Lasting Memories! This week it is Two's Company and Three is a Crowd.  Use 2 or three of something. When I saw this challenge I instantly thought of when James was born.

My in-laws arrived at the hospital with Scott in tow a few minutes after James was born. When Scott entered the hospital room I was feeding James a bottle. (I couldn't breastfeed due to the medications I was on. I had a migraine that had lasted over 10 months. Yes, you read that right, 10 months! We didn't know I had Behcets at the time, but Behcets is well know for migraines that do not respond to pain killers. Now I know they need anti-inflammatories, instead of migraine meds.

Anyway, Scott walked across the room and grabbed the bottle out of my hands, said, "MINE" and popped it into his mouth. Thus sibling rivalry was born, LOL. Mind you Scott had been weaned from the bottle at 8 months due to his needing cleft palate surgery. Thankfully it was a one shot deal with the bottle, Scott just needed to assert his authority as the oldest.

So here are my two's-Two brothers, two parents, Two 3-D embellishments (flower and bottle), Two of the same label die-cut, Two Patterned papers

Three's- 3 Photos, Scott turned Three the day before.

Supplies: This layout is the result of cleaning my scrapbook room. So it's all stash. The only thing I know for sure is that it is Doodlebug Flock. The chevron was done with old ric-rack borders placed side by side.

Tip: Do you remember flocking? I found it when I was cleaning the other day.  I didn't have the right color of chipboard letters, so I covered an old set of purple chipboard with the red flock. Great way to use up old chipboard and an old embellishment. As a matter of fact everything on this layout was old stash!

I really had fun with this challenge.  Great memory and great way to use up old stash:)

Looking forward to seeing your creations!

Have a scrappy week!
