Whee! Amusement Park Layout and Review of Scrapbook Secrets by Kimber McGray

I have been challenging myself to learn more about different techniques. So I used my 30% off coupon from Archivers and picked up Scrapbook Secrets by Kimber McGray. It takes a lot to impress me. Most books I am lucky if I learn a couple of new things. This book on the other hand is CHOCK FULL of new information. When I finished the book I wanted more! So I immediately went and signed up for her blog. (The link is above.)

The only con I found in the book is that some of the print is so light that those of us with aging eyes may need extra lighting. I really wish publishers would take note of this issue. It seems to be an ongoing issue with many publications.

Secret number 2 from Kimber's book is "Using the Rule of Thirds ensures a well-balanced layout." So I decided to work this page using the rule of thirds. I used three different papers from Echo Park's Playground Collection and the Splash Collection. The paper strips are 3.5 inches wide. I inked the strips and edges of the layout with Memento Tuxedo Black and matted everything with some black cardstock scraps to tie it together.
I also divided the page into threes by putting three pictures at the top, using the title as a third and then using a larger picture and smaller picture in the bottom third. The flowers are in threes and also placed in a triangle visual field to draw the eyes across the page.

I chose three colors to give focus to the page: Aqua, Red and Yellow.

The chipboard was from my stash and was different colors. I use sandpaper on the chipboard to remove the old pattern and to help the Making Memories Ocean Blue Paint stick. I did a primer layer of paint and let it dry. I then did another layer and covered it with Doodlebug Swimming Pool Glitter. I used a red button as the bottom of the exclamation point. I tried a yellow one to tie in with the other yellow buttons but it got lost in the paper pattern.

I used buttons across the page tied with aqua and white striped twine. I also used yellow buttons on the roller coaster wheels to give some added dimension. The Doodlebug Ladybug flowers are placed in a visual triangle.

Bakers Twine: Aqua and White striped
