Okay, so I decided to have some fun! This week the challenge is "Anything But Snow." And what do we all wish for when it is snowing? Summer and water activities-at least at my house.

Gatlinburg and Kayak Trip Layout
Our trip to Gatlinburg, TN included a new experience. The boys had received kayaks for their birthdays and so we decided to take them with us to Gatlinburg. Despite having the Aztec for years we had never used it for transporting anything on top of the vehicle. What a comedy act! We had no idea on what we were doing. In trying to attach the kayaks to the roof one of them slipped and ended up breaking the area around the driver's side door lock (inside).
We ended up having to secure them a couple more times on the trip down. By the time we got there we finally had figured it out. Unfortunately though the kayaks spent the entire time in our condo. The river was closed due to a high fecal count for part of the time and then major storms came through making it unsafe to be on the swiftly moving river. So the only water the kayaks saw the entire time were the thunderstorms we drove through on the way home!
Supplies:
Cardstock and Paper: Best Creations Splash Fun, Crafter's Companion
Ribbon: Micheal's-I glued the smaller ribbon on top of the wider ribbon.
Beads: Stash (I used them to mimic the paper with the beads.)
Adhesive: Glue Glider Pro, Mini Glue Dots
Frugal tip: I get a lot of my embellishments off of www. freecycle.com The star beads were one of my hauls.
Challenges:
Sketches in Time:
Pile It On: Tag You're It- Use a tag

Believe Christmas Santa Layout
Christmas was wonderful this year. It was the first year I didn't have to give the boys money to get me a gift or take them to the store to get it. James actually searched the Internet looking for the perfect gift for me. And bless his heart he found it. About 10 years ago during a move the gravy boat for my wedding china was accidentally broken. And the pattern was discontinued in 1989. So it was not easy to find, but bless his heart he found it!!!!!
Scott was also given a Santa outfit by a friend. He loved it and spent the day playing Santa with the cats and us. He was the skinniest Santa I have ever seen, but by far the jolliest! It was a wonderful day.
I am finally finished with all of the Christmas gifts, so I was able to get back to scrapping today. And one of my favorite challenge blogs, Lasting Memories had a wonderful sketch perfect for Santa Scott! They are also looking for new Design Team members, so I decided to take a risk and apply. I have so enjoyed visiting blogs and trying new things, I thought trying out for a design team was a great way to stretch myself as an artist. If you are interested in applying go here.

Holiday Word Amusement Park Layout
One of my kids' favorite amusement parks is Holiday World. It is located in Santa Claus, Indiana. The park is family owned and is VERY clean. Plus they have free soft drinks, free parking and free sun screen. And it is reasonably priced compared to other Amusement Parks. The park is divided into sections which are named after the different holidays. The section that today's photos are shot in is 4th of July-which is why I used a Red, White and Blue Theme:)

State Gymnastics Layout
Scott's first year on his gymnastics team finished when they won the state runner up title. Which was amazing considering it was the first year for the team to exist! By the time the second year rolled around the team won the State Title! And Scott won the State Title on the high bar! Gymnastics was a real positive for him. It was a place that his small stature was a plus. And his strength plus his ability to walk on his hands for more than 15 minutes, do six to ten back flips in a row, or do a giant on the monkey bars gave him the opportunity to be a star on the playground. Which definitely helped his self-esteem because school was a challenge although he excelled in reading.
We did eventually run into a period of time where he became sensitive to the fact that his toe nails were deformed from the fetal alcohol syndrome, but we solved that problem with gymnastics shoes. And later when it no longer bothered him, he got rid of the shoes.
So when I saw the July 1st Challenge for Once Upon a Sketch I knew right away the paper collection and picture I wanted to use. The stars on the sketch made me think of his first team because they were the "Stars". And since the ribbon on their gold, silver and bronze medals were red, white and blue, Best Creation's I Love America Collection was the perfect fit!
Supplies: Best Creation I Love America Collection Kit, Paper Patch AllStars Paper
Ink: Colorbox Royal Blue
Dies; Spellbinders Nested Stars, Just Rite Spellbinders Charms Dies
Embellishments: Red Buttons (stash), Best Creation I Love America Stickers and Chipboard, Jillibean Red Twist Twine
