Lasting Memories Challenge-Sketch

Hello paper crafting friends! It's a new week at Lasting Memories. I so enjoyed seeing all of your banners last week! This week we have a sketch by Stacey Lokovic at Inspired to Scrap.

Stacey has an online scrapping group called Weekend Warriors that meets online every 2 months. The sketches are awesome and allow you to get a ton of pictures into her sketches.  This month Stacey has graciously donated a spot in the next Weekend Warrior Class.  So be sure to get entered by completing at least one of the challenges this month. Remember you have the entire month to get the challenges done!

When Scott was young we often traveled out of state for his gymnastics competitions. One of his favorite competitions was the Cereal City Classic in Battle Creek, Michigan. (He scored a perfect 10 on the vault one time, so I am sure that was part of the reason.)

Kellogg's has a factory there that allows visitors. So these pictures are from there.

Lasting Memories- Celebrate Nature (Abe Martin Lodge)

Hello! Our theme this week at Lasting Memories  is to "Celebrate Nature"  When I taught kids with emotional handicaps we spent hours a tour local river. My curriculum centered around it and we used real world experiences instead of textbooks to learn. We had so much fun!

One of my favorite places to go in Indiana is Brown County.  It's an easy drive from our home, so it makes an easy overnight trip. This layout is about the Abe Martin Lodge at the State Park. Abe Martin is a cartoon figure from the 30's. The lodge itself gives you a feel that you are lost in time and has artwork that celebrates it's history, while the waterpark celebrates it's current place in time.  We love it there:)

Happy St. Paddy's Day tomorrow:)  In honor of the day Lasting Memories DT member Claire wants us to do a layout in shades of green.

Lasting Memories - 2nd Alpha Wars and Blog Hop winner

Time to use those alphabet stickers! It's time for our 2nd Alpha Wars at Lasting Memories. We want you to:use as many different alpha stickers (or die cuts) as possible (2+ alphas). This is a great way to use up some sets that have a lot of missing letters.

Our home is a Big Ten divided home. James attends Purdue. My undergrad was done at University of Michigan and my Masters at Indiana University. I have taught for Indiana University and Purdue. And Scott is an Indiana University fan.. (Largely because his brother goes to Purdue and he just loves to be antagonistic.)

So last summer when we went to Brown County for a few days we made a trip to Bloomington so that James could see the campus. While we couldn't go into the stadium, he did get to peek in.

Lasting Memories Challenge: Journal, Journal, Journal

Welcome Back! This week at Lasting Memories it's all about journaling! This is an area I struggle with. First I hate my handwriting. Second the Behcets causes so many language issues it frustrates me, because I used to be a wonderful writer and won many speech and essay contests as a teenager. So I recognize the problem, but can't always access the written language part of my brain.

Supplies:
Cardstock and Paper: Bazzill Admiral, Best Creation, Bazzill White
Alphabet: American Craft Thickers

Journal:
Gateway Arch
St. Louis Missouri
June 2007

At the end of our trip to Branson, MO we stopped in St. Louis so that the boys could see the Gateway Arch and ride on a Riverboat on the Mississippi.

We had a beautiful day! The river was low enough that we parked the Aztec on the flood walls.

The boys were enthralled with the river taxis that took people to businesses on the Mississippi. Definitely not a sight you see in Indiana!

Looking forward to all of your wonderful journaling!

Lasting Memories Black Background

I love working with black paper. It adds such a simple elegance or just a solid no nonsense touch to a layout. Needless to say I was thrilled when the challenge for this week at Lasting Memories is to use a black background.

And I decided that not only did I want to use a black background but I also wanted to do a CAS Layout. I don't know about you, but I have a tendency to lean towards the bulky embellishments and that can cause a problem when trying to put too many of them in album.

This picture was taken in Nashville, Indiana. It's a small artistic Colony that is well worth the visit!

Supplies:
Paper and Cardstock: Studio Calico Valley High Kit
Adhesive: Glue Glider Pro

OWH Blog Candy Winner:
Number 63 is:

Ruza Rebel
Lovely CAS Card! The DP is perfectly matched!

Congratulations Ruza! please contact me  with your email:) If I don't hear from you within a week, I will draw another number.

Challenges:

Crafts 4 Eternity: CAS
Handmade Harbour : Male Oreintated Papercraft
The Male Room: Transportation and or Travel. I choose travel:)

Looking forward to seeing your black background creations!

Lasting Memories Look How I Have Grown! Challenge

Did you have fun on blog hop last week?  I so loved seeing everyone's creative ideas!

The winner of the Hero Arts Butterfly Die is Carmen Mitchell. Carmen would you please contact me through my contact button? You have one week to do so. If I don't hear from Carmen, I will pick another winner next week.

And now for this week's challenge! How have you grown as a scrapbooker? This week at Lasting Memories we want to take a peek at your past and present!

One of my first Layouts:

OK time for true confessions:  When I started scrapbooking there were few supplies. A Circle punch was a scraper's best friend. And stickers were the answer to everything!, LOL. I rarely use them now. And horrors of horrors I used Rubber Cement before there was acid free rubber cement. Oh the messes I have been cleaning up!

And a little info on the photos. That's Scott at 6 months wearing newborn clothes! That Michigan bib was almost bigger than him! His small stature was due to his birth mother drinking. It took until his adult years to catch up in size. He is now 5' 4". Scott's Fetal Alcohol Syndrome presents daily challenges for him even in his adult years. Please if you are pregnant, don't drink. Your baby will pay the price of your drinking for it's entire life.

And here is the latest layout-just a little different....what do you think?

Supplies:
Paper and Cardstock: Doodlebug, Bazzil
Ribbon: The Robert Stanley Collection
Washi Tape: Stash-I need to find a way to mark this stuff
Decorative Tape: stash
Flowers: Petaloo
Ink: Colorbox Navy Limited Edition
Dies: Avery Elle Chevron Bits
Pearls: Kaisercraft
Button Stars: Doodlebug
Red Brooch in Flower: Stash-I picked it up at a garage sale
Alphabet: American Crafts Marine Foil
Stamp: Studio Calico Scrapbook Kit
Chipboard: Stash

Challenges:
Crafts 4 Eternity: Summer Fun

Looking forward to seeing how YOU have grown!

Lasting Memories Challenge Stars and Stripes

Well you would have thought that this weeks challenge at Lasting Memories would have been easy for me. I mean star and stripes, how difficult can that be? BUT I took Studio Calico's Inked Class. And as a result I decided to use gesso, with a striped stamp and paint from water color paper. (No that is not a typo there really is watercolor paper paints.) Well it is was a freaking disaster. When the red paint dried it looked like brown paint. So then I thought why not cover the red with  Tim Holtz  Distressed Red Barn Paint daubers? It turned into a frigging mess.  The DT deadline was fast approaching so I decided to pull out the tried and true Doodlebug paper. And I will try the gesso at a later date when I have time to practice!

So here is attempt Two:

Journal: Charlie's Angels was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. In particular I loved Kate Jackson. The show returned as a movie during the boy's teens years. I didn't see it but the boys did. The car is from the movie version and can be seen at the Stars" Cars Museum in Gatlinburg TN.

Lasting Memories- Country Charm

How was your week? Did you get a chance to enjoy the countryside?

This week at Lasting Memories we are celebrating Country Charm! Use Country Colors and a Charm!
I  used pictures of the boys at Gatlinburg and even incorporated the theme into my title.

Supplies:
Cardstock and Paper: My Mind's Eye Lost & Found 3, Bazzill Cinder, Bo Bunny Country Garden, Nikki Sivils Hiking Trails, Nikki Sivils Summer Lemonade

Embellishments: My Mind's Eye love Enamel Dots, Maya Road Little Birdies Clip, Maya Road Vintage Wood Butterfly,Freckled Fawn Mustache Washi Tape

Buzzz...Bee Hive Layout

We've been taking day vacations instead of a big vacation. It's helped the boys appreciate their home state of Indiana and certainly has allowed us to do more because we have cut out the cost of hotels and long trips. One of the please Scott wanted to go to last fall was to Stuckey's Orchard to see the real life bee hive in the store.  He was fascinated with being able to be up close to a hive:) And bringing home
some honey from the hive finished off the day!

Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill Black Orange Peel and Yellow, Nikki Sivils Queen Bee
Die Cuts: Nikki Sivils Queen Bee I add some Doodlebug Black Flock to the bees

I obtained this paper in a Nikki Sivils Warehouse Sale. I have to admit I initially was not happy that it was most paper, BUT the paper is cute and different than what I typically buy-so it forced me to do something different. And this paper was perfect for the bee photos. You'll be seeing a couple of more layouts using it in future posts.

Challenges:
My Creative Moments: June Challenge: Summertime (Bees are everywhere in the summer.)
Country View Crafts' Challenge- Diecuts (bees, arrows, Journal Card)
Creatalicious Challenge- All about Summer
Ladybug Crafts- June Challenge for the Men in Your Life- This layout is about my son learning about bee hives.

Have a wonderful week making BEE-UTIFUL Crafts!

Digitally Sweet Challenge- Celebrations

"It's time to celebrate, celebrate, Dance with the music." OK so I have had this song in my head all week:)
We are celebrating this week at Digitally Sweet Challenges along with our sponsor Template Dreams

I took a bit of a different approach to the theme, "Celebration". Instead of focusing on the traditional sense of the word, I decided to use a "Winner's Circle".  And this year instead of doing a big vacation our family is doing day trips throughout the year. And amazingly we have a world renowned attraction here in Central Indiana...The Indy 500 and the Brickyard.

We did a "Background Tour" of the Indianapolis Speedway which was a bit pricey but because we don't have the expense of hotels we decided to splurge. It was well worth it. We had a ride on a tour bus on the track, took our pictures on the finish line, and explored the race tower. And we finished at the winner's circle!

I used My Memories Suite 4 with Template Dreams "Go to the Races."

Just a reminder we have changed the rules of the challenge and it no longer has to be 100% digital, it just needs to include a digital image. If it is 100% digital you will get two entries into the give away.

Have a wonderful week! I am looking forward to seeing your celebrations:)

The challenge this week at Lasting Memories is to share a Childhood Memory. It can be of your own childhood, your children's childhood or even your college years!

Childhood Memories....hmmm isn't it fun when we can watch our children enjoying the same activities we enjoyed as children? Bumper Boats are loved by my kids as much as I loved them as a kid.  I did it once or twice because my parents couldn't afford to pay for three kids to ride them, but I loved them when I had the opportunity!

So I chose to do a layout of the boys playing bumper boats while also sharing my personal childhood memory!

Journal I loved bumper cars and boats as a kid. Watching the boys ride them is also fun!

I used scattered hexagons to continue the theme of bumper boats around the water.

Supplies:

Scrapbook Kit: Studio Calico Neverland March 2013
Teal Velvet Paper: Stash
Notebook paper: Stash
Die: Spellbinders Hexagons

Challenges:
Stuck On U Sketches; Diecut challenge Are you Seaworthy? I used hexagon dies to represent the bumper boats in the water

Don't forget to leave a comment to be in the drawing.

Looking forward to seeing your Childhood Memories:)
