The "male cooking gene" was then passed to the next generation to my cousin Mark. Currently he runs his own catering business, but at one time he was a top Chef at Disney World. And now James has the "cooking gene."
James favorite toy as a preschooler was his "kitchen." He was forever making pretend meals for me. And it wasn't long before he was "helping" in the kitchen. Now I so look forward to his coming home from college because he takes over the kitchen.
One of James favorite things to make in kindergarten was "Reindeer Chow." Here's the recipe:
Reindeer Chow
9 cups Rice Chex
1 cup chocolate chips
½ cup peanut butter
¼ cup margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cups powdered sugar
1. Put cereal in a large bowl.
2. Microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and
Margarine uncovered on High 1 minute; stir.
3. Microwave 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth.
4. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated.
5. Pour into 2-gallon re-sealable food-storage plastic bag.
6 .Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated.
7. Spread on waxed paper to cool.
Store in airtight container in refrigerator.
